Reading:
It
is of the LORD'S mercies
that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is
thy faithfulness. The LORD is my
portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait
for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait
for the salvation of the LORD. It is
good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence,
because he hath borne it upon him.
He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope. He giveth his cheek to him that
smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.
For the Lord will not cast off for ever: But though he cause grief, yet will he have
compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
Commentary:
It
is only of God's mercy, that we as sinners are not destroyed for our sins. It is because "His compassions fail not,
they are new every morning." Each
day when we arise and get out of bed, it is another day of grace, for Jesus'
sake. The sacrifice of Jesus turned
God's heart from wrath to favor (toward us), and all those who believe in Him
abide under the protecting shadow of His wings.
Thus when God afflicts us, when He allows evil to befall, we wait for
Him, and our soul seeks Him. We seek Him
in prayer and by the study of His Word, but most importantly we hope. Since His Word promises us all sins are
forgiven for Jesus' sake, we bear our yoke in silence…..It is good that a
man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he bear the
yoke in his youth…..The Lord will not cast off forever." But though he
cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his
mercies." Agreeing with all this
Psalm 27 says, "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall
strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD."
