EPISTLE: Hebrews 13:9

Reading:
Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Commentary:
Out of love for our soul, the Lord here warns us not to be carried away with divers (various)  doctrines.  It is common for many false teachers who want their own personal following to find something new in the Bible, a new doctrine before undiscovered.  Such may be "god's laws" regarding meats or foods, laws regarding clothing, length of dress, rankings of order or stations in life, etc.  But not understanding (nor believing) the Gospel, such become preachers of the law.  They exalt the law about the Gospel, and those deceived by such law preachers no longer follow Christ, but the man who teaches a false christ.  While the law has its proper use if rightly used (yet necessary for our old man within), "it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace", namely we seek no justification whatsoever by the law, for we stand secure in the grace of Jesus Christ who kept the law in our place.  Hence "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness, to everyone that believeth" and "Not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith."
