GOSPEL: John 6:47-51

Reading:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.   I am that bread of life.   Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.   This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.   I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Commentary:
We all know that though we presently have life, we will all die someday (except the Lord come first).  We all die because we are sinful and evil people who have broken God's commandments and God explains, "the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ the Lord."  Since He made atonement for our sins on the cross, Jesus is called the Bread of Life.  Those who hunger to be forgiven, those who desire God's mercy and grace, receive such through Jesus Christ the Lord.  To eat this Bread of Life, is to believe in Him with our heart, by faith, that He is the very Son of God, who gave His life a ransom in exchange for the world.  Those who believe in Him truly have everlasting life, and when death comes, such cross Jordan into the Promised Land of heaven.
