EPISTLE: Acts 3:1-10

Reading:
Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.   And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;   Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.   And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.   And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.   Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.   And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.   And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.   And all the people saw him walking and praising God:   And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

Commentary:
Peter here said to the lame man, "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee…."  Such words are good to describe our Christian faith, that Christ is our greatest possession, and because we have Him, whatever else we have on top we are happy to give.  This man who hoped for a little money, received the great miracle of healing, so he could now walk and even leap.  Rightly so He praised God.  In like manner God has come to us bearing His Word of remission of all our sins for Jesus sake.  This message of forgiveness likewise heals us, so that we walk by faith and not by sight.  If He allows us sickness, disease, suffering, or even death, we can still within by faith walk and leap and praise God for His wonderful works.  Our sins, our death, and that devil have all been conquered, by Him who gave His life for all.  Let our focus in life always be "the one thing needful which cannot be taken away."  The world can have our goods and possessions if they are in need, or if God allows the enemy to take by force.  When we are delivered from this evil world by death, we will forever walk and leap and praise God in heaven, for His Son came only to save and "He that believeth on Him shall not be condemned."
