Reading:
Lay
not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where
thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will
your heart be also.
Commentary:
For the good of our soul, Christ here warns us
against worldliness, the love of this world.
Love not the world nor the things of the world……Lay not up for
yourselves treasures upon earth. All the
wealth of this world cannot buy one day in heaven, and only those who possess
the riches of Christ by faith will see life everlasting. Note the warning, "where your treasure
is, there will your heart be also."
If our treasure is the world, our life on earth, our good health, our
possessions, who can Christ be our greatest treasure? Didn't He give His own life to save our soul
from eternal damnation? Thus dear believer,
see in your blessed Savior, the precious treasure of God's mercy and grace,
forgiveness for all sins, and even life everlasting. "He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath
everlasting life."
