The Commandments are necessary, not that we should be justified through
their works but that we, as those who are already justified, may know in which
way our spirit should crucify the flesh and direct us in the affairs of this
life, so that the flesh may not turn wanton and, snapping the reigns, throw the
rider, the spirit of faith. The reins must be put not on the rider but on the
horse.
