GOSPEL: Mark 12:41-44

Reading

And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.   And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.   And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:   For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Commentary
This account of the "widow's farthing" is not taught so we can give little (as our flesh would like to do), but it is taught so we understand all that we give should be given in faith and "the Lord loveth a cheerful giver."  Faith gives without seeing obstacles or hindrances knowing, "the Lord is the Giver of every good and perfect gift."  With the gift of His Son, we are given "double forgiveness" for all our sins, and everlasting life in heaven.  While we can never give back all to God we owe, whatever we given in faith is more than acceptable in His sight.
